County Board of Equalization (CBOE) Hearings have concluded

CBOE Determinations will be mailed around August 6th to those property owners who appealed their property value at the County Board level in July. If you still disagree with your value you may appeal the County's decision to the Colorado Board of Assessment Appeals (BAA), Binding Arbitration, or District Court. Information for filing a higher level appeal is included with your determination letter.

Senior Property Tax Exemptions for Tax Year 2010

Current economic conditions require that all levels of government make difficult decisions, and the State of Colorado has had to reduce or eliminate many programs in order to balance the budget. As a result, The Colorado Legislature eliminated funding for the Senior Homestead Exemption for property tax year 2009, which was reflected in tax bills for qualifying seniors this year. Currently, legislation has been introduced that will suspend the exemption for 2010 tax year (taxes payable in 2011) as well.

In spite of this suspension, the Assessor will continue to process new applications for the exemption program. Those who qualify for the first time in 2010 are encouraged to apply, and homeowners who have already been approved for the exemption need not reapply.

Early Audit Results for the 2010 Property Assessment Study

The Douglas County Assessor's Office is audited annually by an independent firm who is contracted by the Colorado State Legislative Council. The audit ensures that each Colorado county values property fairly and equitably, using procedures that are very similar to the other counties.
